King Charles and the internet

In 1998, King Charles made a now-famous speech about the internet, in which he praised its potential but warned of the dangers of not regulating it. It's a speech that's been widely quoted and discussed in the 20 years since, and it's one that still resonates today.

In his speech, King Charles spoke about the internet's potential to connect people and promote understanding.

He said it had the "power to bring people together" and that it could be a "force for good". But he also warned that the internet could be used to spread hatred and division. He said there was a "dark side" to the internet, and that it could be used to "manipulate and deceive".

As King Charles' speech was prescient in many ways. He correctly predicted that the internet would become an increasingly important part of our lives, and that it would have a profound impact on the way we communicate and interact with each other. He also warned of the dangers of not regulating the internet, and of the potential for it to be used to spread hatred and division.

Today, King Charles' speech feels as relevant as ever. The internet has become an integral part of our lives, and its impact has been both positive and negative. It's brought us closer together and given us unprecedented access to information, but it's also created new opportunities for division and hatred. As we continue to grapple with the challenges posed by the internet, King Charles' words remain as timely and important as ever.

What does this tell us about his views in the future? King Charles has been a vocal supporter of many causes and issues, including the use of the internet to help solve some of the world’s most pressing problems.

We can see that there is an indication that he still sees it as a force for good. In a speech at the Oxford Internet Institute in 2017, King Charles spoke about the potential of the internet to connect people and solve problems on a global scale.

He said that the internet “has the ability to connect us all as human beings in a way that no other technology has done before.”

There is also the strength of the technology for wider educational opportunities. The King has also been a supporter of the use of the internet for education. In a speech at the University of London in 2013, he spoke about the “enormous potential” of the internet to improve access to education.

Carrying on this theme, King Charles has also used the internet to connect with young people. In 2015, he launched the Prince’s Trust #StartTheSpark campaign, which used social media to encourage young people to pursue their dreams.

It is clear that King Charles believes in the power of the internet to do good in the world. As he said in 2017, “The internet has the potential to be an extraordinary force for good.”
