Breast Cancer Care had developed a new organisational strategy - focusing on delivering support and services through digital channels. As a result, they needed to commission a number of new web projects.

Our brief was to provide strategic input into their new digital board from an early stage, then to rebuild the main BCC site and integrate it with Lithium - a forum system designed for large numbers of concurrent users.

Sector : charity, health
Services provided : digital consultancy, IA, design, drupal development, 3rd party systems integration, SSO, hosting, migration and maintenance

Working with Drupal

BCC's existing Drupal website had become increasingly difficult to maintain and couldn’t be adapted much further. To meet their new objectives, they looked to Drupal again - recognising the need for a CMS that could deliver a wide range of functionality and content management facilities.

Digital consultancy

Work began with us supporting the preparation and scoping of the website project - initially referencing UX developed by another agency. By attending Digital Board meetings and user research sessions, we were able help with other digital projects too, including e-learning, e-commerce and more.

Design and build

The main phase of site design and development covered six months. We used a mobile-first, component-based approach to the information architecture and design, creating a flexible framework of visual components. Although the site is large and complex, proper use of major Drupal modules, such as Display Suite and Views, ensures reliability and stability in use.

CRM Integration

As well as integration with the Lithium forums, we created a set of API 'endpoints' for the site to facilitate two-way integration with BCC’s CRM system. This allows their CRM team to more easily extend the integration as needs change over the life-cycle of the site.

support and ongoing work

Taking the site live on schedule was the first of many planned steps - further work includes enhancements to the design and a new events management system.

We are also adding Google Analytics using Google Tag Manager - improving BCC's ability to understand how the site is being used and how to evolve the structure, functionality and content in response.
